How to Maintain a Healthy Smile
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing twice a day and flossing regularly. Both flossing and brushing can help you decrease the overall bacteria in your mouth. The ADA also recognizes mouthwashes (also known as rinses) as a way to clean areas of the mouth for which it is difficult for a toothbrush to reach.
Further, they recommend seeing a dentist routinely. You can look forward to a dental hygiene exam and cleaning when at the dentist. These are a great way to both make sure you aren’t experiencing any greater oral health problems and also that your teeth are regularly and thoroughly cleaned.
Our exam and cleaning is comprehensive at Riviera Smiles. X-rays will be taken and if necessary an intraoral camera will be used so that we can best assess the current state of your teeth. Then, your teeth will be cleaned and polished so that you can face the world with a confidently clean smile!
Worry not. We’re serious about making our services as affordable as possible. We accept most insurance plans. We also participate with Care Credit for those for whom our services are still too expensive.
The Consequences of Poor Oral Health
It’s understandably the goal of a lot of our patients to maintain healthy smiles. It makes sense to us because a healthy smile isn’t only a cosmetic concern but also a healthy one. There are serious consequences of poor oral hygiene and these consequences extend beyond merely teeth problems.
Of course, you may find yourself contending with gum disease or tooth decay if you fall into a pattern of poor oral health. But, it doesn’t stop there. Poor oral health has also been linked to heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia, and even pregnancy complications.
In part, this is because the bacteria in your mouth can travel to other places in the body. That means that controlling the number of bacteria in your mouth is paramount.
